Dance Fever K-2 Performance

Below are some photos and videos of Year 1, along with Kindergarten and Year 2 showing off their great dance moves for the whole school and parents!

Year 1 and Teacher Breakfast!

The students have been working so hard over the past five weeks learning about nutrition and organising a healthy breakfast for the teachers. We have integrated so much literacy and numeracy into our planning, which has been very purposeful learning for the children.

They collected data of what breakfast foods we should buy, worked out the quantities needed with multiplication and addition and discovered different ways of paying for the various items. They designed and wrote letters, invitations, posters, placemats and menus.

See below some pictures of our healthy breakfast morning. It was a fantastic way to start our morning.

I Wonder . . .

During Munch and Crunch today, Zach in 1G found an interesting looking grape in his container.

I posed the following question to 1G...

I wonder why the grape is half purple and half white....

Sam, Charlice and Praise thought it was because the grape was cold at the top.
Tanay, Sachin, Jocelyn, Zach and Ruby thought it might be because some of the juice had leaked out of it.
Tanay also thought it might be because half of it was left in some water.

If you can think of another reason why it is half purple and half white, add a comment!!

Multiplying Slices of Bread

This week, Year 1 have used the data we collected last week to work out how many students want toast for our breakfast next week.

They have been multiplying the number of students who want toast by the amount of slices they want.

Have a look at how some students have shown this in their book...

In our maths reflection, Blake from 1G said that in his lego set at home it uses the word 'by' to describe the size of the arrays. He said that "We could write that array as 13 by 2". We also reflected on other ways we can write it.

Collecting and Recording Data

Year 1 have been collecting and recording each others favourite breakfast foods and drinks in preparation for our Year 1 and Teachers breakfast.

The task was to find out what healthy breakfast foods we should have on our breakfast menu. Year one's task was to record healthy foods that could be eaten at school and gather data from their peers. Some students used ticks to count the amount of people that wanted a particular food. Some other students used tally marks to record their data.

We shared the different ways that students used to record their data and added each one to the success criteria. Students have been using the success criteria to check how they can record their data in a more efficient way.
